Working Principle of Supercharger

The turbocharging device we usually talk about is actually an air compressor. It increases the intake of the engine by compressed air. Generally speaking, turbocharging uses the inertial impulse of exhaust gas from the engine to drive the turbine in the turbine chamber. The turbine also drives the coaxial impeller. The impeller presses the air from the air filter pipeline to make it turbocharged into the cylinder. When the engine speed increases, the exhaust gas exhaust speed and the turbine speed increase synchronously, the impeller compresses more air into the cylinder, and the increase of air pressure and density can burn more fuel. The output power of the engine can be increased by increasing the amount of fuel and adjusting the engine speed accordingly.


You may think that the turbocharging device is very complex, but it is not. The turbocharging device is mainly composed of a turbine chamber and a turbocharger. First, the intake port of the turbine chamber is connected to the engine exhaust manifold, and the exhaust port is connected to the exhaust pipe. Then the intake port of the supercharger is connected with the air filter pipe, and the exhaust port is connected with the intake manifold. Finally, the turbine and the impeller are installed in the turbine chamber and the supercharger respectively, and they are rigidly connected in coaxial direction. Such an integrated turbocharging device is ready, and your engine is "overclocked" like a computer CPU.


There are four common turbocharging systems: mechanical turbocharging system, gas wave turbocharging system, exhaust gas turbocharging system and composite turbocharging system.
